The story of the name of this dip goes like this: Originally, the dip was a new recipe and was served at a southern social. It proved so popular that it was gone in no time flat! A southern belle who missed out on tasting the new recipe tossed a big “hissy fit”. The incident became associated with the dip, and that’s how the dip got its odd name.

Hissy Fit Dip Ingredients

Simple ingredients that are easy to access at any grocery store.
Ingredients
Spicy sausage – You can vary this to how you like it, mild, hot, chorizo or any type of ground sausage meat will work.
Cream cheese, softened and Velveeta, cubed – This mixture of cheese makes a very creamy and delicious combination. It is important to have the cream cheese at room temperature.
Shredded Monterey Jack cheese – Substitute an equal amount of Colby Jack or sharp cheddar cheese if you don’t have Monterey Jack.
Sour cream – This adds a creaminess to the dip that you need to hold it all together and be dippable.
Green onions – A little fresh onion helps to round out the flavors, too.
Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder – This adds umami and great flavors to the dip.
How To Make Hissy Fit Dip

Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Crumble with a spatula until it’s browned and cooked through. Drain the grease from the skillet.
Add the cooked sausage, cream cheese, and Velveeta in a large bowl of a stand mixer. Whirl until well blended. Add the Monterey Jack, sour cream, and green onions and gently stir. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder until the mixture is uniform.

Spoon the dip into a 9×9 inch baking dish and spread it out.
Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. The dip is ready when the edges are bubbling and it’s heated through in the center.
Allow the dip to cool for several minutes before you serve it.

Serving Suggestions
Serve the dip with tortilla chips, corn chips, or Fritos Scoops.
A variety of crackers also work well. Try it with pita crackers, bagel crisps, butter crackers, or whole wheat crackers.
You can also offer fresh veggies for dipping. Celery sticks, sliced bell peppers, carrot sticks, and cucumber slices are great choices.
Or offer bread dippers like toasted baguettes, soft pretzels, or pitas.

Storage Notes
Keep leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to four days.
Reheat portions in the microwave. Heat in 30-second intervals and stir between each one until it’s hot. You can also reheat the entire baking dish in a 350°F oven until bubbly.
Tips
To avoid a greasy dip, drain the sausage thoroughly. You can also place the cooked sausage on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any remaining fat.
Make sure the cream cheese is at room temp. Cold cream cheese is difficult to mix and will leave small white lumps in your dip.
If the cheese on top browns too quickly, you can cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil for the remaining bake time.
