Ingredients for Cookie Mix In A Jar

Ingredients.

This recipe uses very standard oatmeal cookie ingredients. It is likely that if you enjoy baking, you will have most, if not all, of the ingredients in your pantry already!

Recipe Ingredients

For the Jar Mix:

All-purpose flour – Use white all-purpose flour; do not use whole wheat flour. I have not tested with other flour.

Ground cinnamon – Make sure your spices are fresh; they lose flavor as they get older.

Baking powder & baking soda – These ingredients help the cookies rise and get crisp.

Salt – I like to use Kosher salt.

Brown sugar, packed – I use dark brown sugar, but you could substitute light brown sugar.

Granulated sugar – Regular white sugar for sweetness.

Old-fashioned oats – Don’t use quick oats in this recipe; you need to use old-fashioned or rolled oats.

Raisins – I like dark raisins, but you can use golden raisins if you prefer.

Wet Ingredients (for the gift recipient to add):

Butter, softened – You can use salted or unsalted butter.

Egg – I use large eggs in my recipes.

Vanilla extract – I like to use real vanilla extract; the artificial ones do not have the same taste.

For Gifting:

1-quart mason jar with a lid – You can pick these up at your local grocery store.

Gift tag – printable – These are available by clicking the link in this post.

How to Prepare Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Mix In A Jar

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Pour this mixture into a clean glass jar and tap the jar firmly on the counter to create a flat base layer.

Add the brown sugar on top of the flour. Use the back of a spoon to press down firmly across the entire surface until it’s compact.

Follow with a layer of granulated sugar. Next, add the oats, pressing down gently as you add them. Finish by adding the raisins to the jar. Seal the jar tightly.

Jar filled and tag attached.

Attach the tag to the jar using twine or ribbon. These cookies are the bomb for the best oatmeal raisin cookie around!!

Recipe that will be listed on the Gift Tag:

Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment. In a large bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well.

Stir in cookie mix until a thick dough forms. Cover and chill for 30 minutes.

Scoop balls onto the sheet, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers slightly soft. Let cool for at least five minutes.

Little Chef’s Secrets

How Long Does the Jar Cookie Mix Last?

Homemade cookie mix will last up to 6 months, but the brown sugar may harden. It is best to use it sooner.

Store the jar in a cool, dark, dry place.

Tips for the best present

Make sure to bang the ingredients down either by leveling by hand or hitting on a counter to start with the flour.

Use fresh, good-quality ingredients.
