For the Jar Mix:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup raisins
Wet Ingredients (for the gift recipient to add):
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Gifting:
  • 1 1-quart mason jar with a lid
  • 1 gift tag - printableRaffia, twine ,or ribbon

Method

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Pour this mixture into a clean glass jar and tap the jar firmly on the counter to create a flat base layer.
  2. Add the brown sugar on top of the flour. Use the back of a spoon to press down firmly across the entire surface until it’s compact.
  3. Follow with a layer of granulated sugar. Next, add the oats, pressing down gently as you add them. Finish by adding the raisins into the jar. Seal the jar tightly.
  4. Attach the tag to the jar using twine or ribbon.
  5. The mix can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to 3 months.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment. In a large bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well.
  7. Stir in cookie mix until a thick dough forms. Cover and chill for 30 minutes.
  8. Scoop balls onto the sheet, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers slightly soft. Let cool for at least five minutes.
