French Bread Pizza Recipe

French Bread Pizza is a simple homemade pizza made by slicing a loaf of French bread lengthwise and using it as the crust. The bread is topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and traditional pizza toppings before being baked until crispy and golden.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf French bread sliced in half horizontally
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 – 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
  • 4 Roma tomatoes sliced
  • Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper
  • 6-8 fresh basil leaves
  • Olive oil or pizza oil for drizzling
  • Optional: pepperoni olives, mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, etc.

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Butter each half of the French loaf and sprinkle both halves with garlic powder.
  3. Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 5 minutes, or until just lightly toasted.
  4. Once toasted, remove the baking sheet from the oven and spread the pizza sauce evenly across both slices of French loaf.
  5. Add any additional toppings, if desired, and top with 1 – 2 cups of grated mozzarella cheese.
  6. Put the baking sheet back into the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven, top with fresh sliced tomatoes and chopped basil. Season with Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Drizzle with olive oil or pizza oil if desired.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes then slice and enjoy!
